I’ve made the transition over to a new website. I figure having a url in my name is more professional than something from .blogspot.com. I don’t think having your name be searchable is necessarily a bad thing if you want to publish, in fact at the publishing company I’m working for we are far more likely to work with an author that already has a following of some sort. I imagine that translates across the industry.
That said I’m in the process of learning how to get the new website to function as well as moving the blog posts over from my old gmail blogger to here. It’s also an excellent opportunity for some small edits. These posts are basically come from a stream of conscious where I write out my thoughts, having a chance to tidy my past posts a bit is nice. I’ll have to figure out a better system in the future… maybe proofreading before posting. Ouch!
I’ve been stuck with an aspect of Penumbra part II for a little less than a month now. It’s a section that I’ve rewritten three times now, and each time gets more and more frustrating. But, I think I’ve finally nailed it down… FINALLY. I read a quote the other day that said something like, “authors should keep track of the words they cut… not the words they keep.” I’m paraphrasing that terribly, and I don’t know who said it originally (if anybody knows, let me know in a comment and I’ll make the appropriate changes) but I think that is sound advice. Especially considering I think I’ve written twice as many words as I’ve ended up keeping. I’ve got them all still, tucked away in folders just in case I want to see them again. I definitely recommend keeping a backup of everything, even if it’s terrible.
