I’m behind in my biweekly post, primarily because I started a new job that’s nearly an hour and a half away from where I live. So as if getting to know a new company and workflow isn’t stressful enough, I get to add a nice commute on that of it all. That makes getting things like blog post and, heck, writing in general difficult.
Things should start to stabilize soon hopefully though, as it is, I’m still cranking out a couple thousand words a week. That’s something at least, but it’s not nearly enough, as I’d like to be hitting at least a couple thousand a day.
Enter Nanowrimo! I had a vague dream to get the rough draft for book 2 finished this month, but odds are that’s going to turn out to be a pipe dream. Every year I try to get all geared up for November, but the universe seems pretty dedicated to getting in my way. The biggest issue is that my mother’s birthday is the 1st, so my kickoff to Nanowrimo is generally spending 2-3 days with family and that means nothing is going to get done. I know, that’s just an excuse, but it doesn’t make it any less true.
On the plus side, my friend Chris is reading Eisengrau right now, and if he likes it he’s going to forward it on to his agent. That’s exciting, but of course no guarantee it would go anywhere. The literary agent world is a seemingly complex one, where agents cover certain genres and publishers, and thusfar I’ve had a hard time keeping track of who is who. So at the bare minimum, if Chris doesn’t want to forward it on, or his agent doesn’t want to take on the manuscript, I’d like a referral to an agent that is more in my genre. Nothing to do but cross my fingers and push on with book 2 until then.
Speaking of which I need to get started on that draft now!
