That’s right, you read it here first folks. I finally got my first manuscript in last Thursday. This will either being something that’s completely irrelevant in five years because you already know that I got a book published, or because nothing ever got published and I faded into obscurity. That’s just a bit of cheery existentialism to start your day.
I’ve held off on submitting for a while now because I wanted to have a solid rough draft of book 2 finished, as I thought it would be an easier sell that way. It probably is, but that depends on whether you’re able to get a dialogue started with a publisher or an agent first. Anyway, the rough draft for book 2 isn’t completely nailed down, but it is like 95% of the way there, with just some internal logic stuff I need to work through.
After that, I don’t know? Book 2 has, as a whole, progressed much faster than book 1, and is going to require far fewer rewrites than 1 did. But that doesn’t mean I’m sure I should move on to book 3 when 2 is done yet. I’m thinking maybe I stretch my legs and step into a different project first, at least, if book 1 hasn’t sold yet.
In the meantime, I’ve started a podcast for board games. I haven’t actively advertised it yet, because it’s kind of rubbish right now. Podcasting is a whole lot harder than it looks, who knew? I feel like I’m starting to get better at it, not just from a talking perspective but also from a technical perspective. It would probably be a whole lot easier if I had a co-host, but I’m sadly missing such a person at the moment.
In any case, it’s been quite a while since my last post, but in my defense… well COVID’s kind of screwed everything up. It’s remarkable how much time you don’t actually have when you’re stuck at home and can’t go anywhere, even if you don’t have a commute to work. Still, my goal this week is to come up with a schedule to keep me productive from a writing perspective so I can get book 2 finished quick, and part of that will be doing this more regularly. We’ll see if I can pull it off!
